Miranda July - Video

9 months agowe gathered up our worldly goods
stole off in the dark as quickly as we could
you were quieting the baby down
when we came to the dock on the outskirts of town
and looking back we saw china shrinking to the size of a coin
and then we saw water everywhere
when we climbed on board
they tied our things together with electrical cord
and then we set sail
as we held on tight to the cold iron rail
and I apologize but I don’t know what I love more
you next to me there or the receding shore
we stood there in the cold
and the baby was six months old
we were passing him back and forth
when a cold familiar wind came down from the north
and looking back we saw china shrinking to the size of a coin
and then we saw water everywhere

10 months agoThis is my Nikon FM2, the second camera I purchased after my Pentax K1000. The Nikon FM@ is fully manual and shoots up to 1/4000 Sec Shutter Speed. It works at every speed without a battery and is as rugged as they come. Long Live my FM2!

I bought my Nikon FM2 with my own money while I worked for Ritz Camera in the 1989 after I graduated from High School. Before that I shot a Pentax K1000. This camera is indestructible. I have banged it on granite boulders still it keeps on shooting. It’s totally manual and will shoot at every shutter speed without a battery. I love you FM2!
11 months agoThree passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].
Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.
With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of [people].
I have wished to know why the stars shine.
Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.
This has been my life; I found it worth living.
